Facebook shared its earnings today and revealed some interesting statistics about how its users access the social network. This quarter, half a billion users out of a total 1.39 billion accessed the social network using only a mobile device, making an increase of 26 percent year-over-year. That’s 37.8 percent of Facebook users that never log in to the desktop site. The number includes those visiting via the apps or mobile website, but excludes Instagram and WhatsApp. In total, Facebook saw 1.19 billion monthly active mobile users, an increase of 13 percent year-on-year. GoPro’s Hero4 camera is getting a new firmware update that will bring 240fps slow-motion video in high definition soon, but Gizmodo’s already got footage that shows off how good snowboarding looks in slow-mo. The firmware update brings not only slow-motion in HD, but also an upgraded time lapse feature that can record at a whopping 4K resolution. Twitshot, a website that automatically extracts images from pasted links and attaches them to tweets, today launched an iOS app that makes it an invaluable tool for anyone that uses Twitter. A Twitter study in 2014 showed that simply attaching an image to your tweet results in a 35 percent increase in retweets on average, so attaching images whenever you can is a good way to get attention. Tumblr today released an update for iOS that brings a number of new features to the app. Users can now receive interactive notifications on their lock screen for quick post liking or following. They’ll also receive alerts about fan mail, asks and answers. E-commerce service Gumroad today announces the Gumroad Library for Android app, the counterpart to its iOS app launched last September. “As we see more and more creators focusing on content best consumed by mobile devices (in addition to music, books, and films, we’re seeing tons of Gumroad creators selling instructional video content like yoga classes and cooking lessons that truly require the portability of a mobile device),” the company said.
